The beauty of nature is sometimes overwhelming.  Life starts with just a small seed that has fallen upon the earth.

The desolate seed grasps the soil with its roots, reaching for nutrients.  Nurtured by water alone, the seed is able to curiously spread its roots.  Searching every which way the roots rejoice in unison as they quench their thirst on the earth below and continue to spread rapidly.
As the seed continues searching for more rich soil and water, it feels a sense of security – those first few steps away from home are trecherous but very lucrative to the roots and they are appreciative of what they’ve found.

From within the seed, an arm is seen stretching up towards the sky.  Reaching higher and higher the arm finally splays its palm to bask in the sunlight.
Meanwhile, the roots have confirmed plentiful nutrients below and twist themselves deeper and further to explore new ground.

The seed is exhausted.  She must rest.  From within, she continues to gather more nutrients before another journey but she does so quietly and with caution for it was a long journey to where she now stands.

Winter sets in and the seed stands stubbornly with her palm outreached to find those last rays of sun.  Her arm is hardened by the conditions and in time, she must retract her palm if she wishes to save it.  Without her palm she is growing weak and no water below dehydrates her.
Just when she is about to give up, the rays return for springtime.  With one hardened arm, she now reaches upwards with another arm in search of even more sunlight.  She doesn’t want to experience what happened last year so her journey for growth continues.  Reaching twice as high as last year she proudly opens another palm.  The sunlight gives her strength to take climb with a third arm and opens yet another palm to the beautiful sun.  Feeling a slight sway in her hardened arm, she reaches her roots even wider for a better grip just before the cold sets in and puts up another fight.

This cycle continues for a few years until she has hardened up to be as tall as the other trees in the land.  She no longer needs to fight for sunlight as she is equal with the rest.  Instead, she spreads her arms out wide and opens her palms to the sun.  She is strong and happy with an incredible grip on the ground and hundreds of palms opened to the sun in all directions.

She now is strong enough to give birth to new life and this summer she makes her own seed.  She smiles as she watches it wisp away in the wind.  “Good luck, my child.”  she says.  Knowing that it will have a tough journey just as she had.  But well worth it in the end to be in the sun.

After writing, The Fire Within, I realized how little I was truly telling people. I wanted my first book to be short and concise. I see so many dieting books that are 500 pages and I believe that is ridiculous! My 160 page pocket size book is more than enough to help anyone lose substantial weight, filled with pictures and plenty of white space – an easy read on a hammock on a summer afternoon.

A more in depth look at fitness is my newest book, The Leaf of Life.
